Tim Nedow – Sponsored Athlete Update

We’d like to share an update on Tim Nedow, one of the athletes that we proudly sponsor. Tim, a native of Brockville, Ontario, is a professional track and field athlete specializing in shot put and discus throw. Last summer at the Pan Am Games, Tim won silver in shot put in front of a hometown crowd. Now, after a record-breaking indoor season, he’s one of 14 Canadians competing in the IAAF World Indoor Championships this week, from March 17-20 in Portland, Oregon.

We recently had a chance to catch up with Tim to discuss his breakout season and what he’s hoping the accomplish at Worlds.

He spent all of January weight training and throwing at York University, which is the Eastern hub for Canada Athletics. His routine helped him get ready for a busy February, when he competed in the inaugural IAAF World Indoor Tour with meets in Karlshruhe, Germany and Stockholm, Sweden. He won in Karlshruhe with a throw of 20.89m, and won again in Stockholm with a new personal best of 21.33m – this was the first time passing the 21-metre mark for Tim, and it won him the whole IAAF World Indoor Tour along with earning him the third best throw in the world this year.

“The best throw this year is 21.57m,” Tim said, “and the second is 21.35m. This was the first year they did an IAAF indoor tour, so it was pretty cool to win it and I was really excited to throw my personal best.”

He then competed in Madrid, Spain, winning again with a throw of 20.71, and then nearly broke 21m again with a 20.98m throw at a meet in the Czech Republic in early March.

After a hectic travel schedule and a successful indoor season so far, he’s currently back stateside training at Brigham Young University in Utah to prepare for the World Indoor Championships.

“I’ve been training hard at BYU, getting ready for Indoors. I’m happy with how I’ve performed this indoor season, and the World Championships in Portland are really big for me – I want to finish the season on a high note and get some momentum heading into the outdoor circuit.”

We’re really excited to see how Tim caps off his great season when he throws in Portland this Friday, March 18th. To follow along, be sure to check out Tim’s Instagram and keep an eye on the IAAF website to track the results. The Burnbrae team and all of your fans back home will be rooting for you, Tim!
