Good luck to Tim Nedow, Olympic Athlete!
NoneWe’re proud to congratulate Tim Nedow, Burnbrae Farms sponsored athlete, on qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics in Shot Put.
A Brockville, Ontario native, Tim’s first place throw of 20.28 metres at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Edmonton last week officially secured his spot with the Olympic team.
“I’m really excited,” Tim said, “I’ve put a lot of hard work in over the years, all with the goal of becoming an Olympian. I’m proud and honoured to be in this position and to represent Canada on the world stage, and I’m thankful to my family, coaches, and everyone who helped me along the way. Now, I’m focused on training as hard as I can and making sure I’m ready to perform when I’m in Rio.”
Tim threw his personal best this year with a toss of 21.33m at the IAAF World Indoor Championship in Stockholm, Sweden. By throwing over 21 metres, Tim is part of an exclusive rank of throwers: only 128 shot putters have ever reached the 21 metre mark. He’s hoping to break that barrier for the first time in outdoor competition, and the Olympics would be a great place to do it.
Tim sets out for Rio on August 9th, and throws on August 18th. With the event less than a month away, he’s training at York University in Toronto and sticking to his strict regimen: a mix of strength training, throwing, stretching, and physiotherapy. “I also try to get some light exercise in as well,” Tim said, “like golf, or basketball.”
“In Olympic shot put,” he continues, “you have the qualifier and the final all in one day. My qualifying throws are at 9:55AM, and then the finals are later that day at 8:30PM. So, right now I’m throwing twice a day in my training to prepare for that – in the morning, I mostly focus on my technique, then in the afternoon I crank it up and try to throw far.”
We’ve been proud to sponsor Tim since 2015, as he has competed on the world shotput circuit, including winning a silver at the Pan Am Games in Toronto last year. He’s been known to stop by our farm every now and then to pick up some Olympic-sized portions of eggs: “I eat a lot of eggs. They’re great, simple protein, and that helps me get the strength I need to perform. I’m 6’7” and I have an intensive workout regime, so it’s tough to find the right protein sources to satisfy my appetite and build and maintain the muscle I need to compete. So eggs have been a big help, and I’ve really appreciated Burnbrae’s support – we’ve had a great partnership and I’m glad to be one of their sponsored athletes.”
We’ll all be cheering Tim on as he represents Canada – and our shared hometown of Brockville, Ontario – in Rio on August 19th. To follow along with his training, check out Tim’s Instagram, or our Burnbrae Farms Facebook page. Best of luck, Tim!
