Meet Burnbrae Farms Sponsored Athlete: William Preudhomme

General

Meet William Preudhomme, short track speed skater and Burnbrae Farms sponsored athlete. William is on the Canadian National Development team and this blog post shares his journey as an athlete. Obviously a fan of eggs, protein has been an important part of his healthy eating plan and achieving his goals.

The inspiration

I started off speed skating at 13 years old, about 8 years ago, right after the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics. I was a hockey player and fast on the ice but had sub-par stick skills. After seeing the best in the world compete on TV my dad signed me up at the local Toronto Speed Skating Club for lessons. Watching the greats like Marc Gagnon and Charles Hamelin race is what pushed me into the sport. I wanted to be just like them.

Becoming an international talent

I spent the last four years training in Quebec with the best skaters in the country. In the past three years, I have had the pleasure of representing Canada on three separate occasions. First in 2013 at the World Junior Championships in Warsaw, Poland. Thn in 2014 at the ISU Short Track World Cups 3 and 4 in Shanghai, China and Seoul, South Korea, where I won a bronze medal in the 500m. And last year in Granada, Spain at the 2015 FISU Winter University Games. I am currently training with my main idol from when I started skating, Charles Hamelin as well many other athletes from the National Centre.

My Olympic dream

My goal is to represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. I have to ensure that I stay committed to my training program with the National Centre which includes 10 on ice trainings and 3 weight trainings a week. To make sure I can get through these intense weeks of training, I make sure that I am fuelling my body. I plan on continuing to focus on the right types of vitamins and nutrients, including protein.

Protein fuels my day

I try to get about 100g of protein per day, starting off with a well-balanced breakfast that includes eggs, a bowl of cereal and fruit. Eggs are an important part of a healthy breakfast as they provide me essential proteins to help me get through my intense days of training. I then make sure to take a cup of Greek yogurt and drink chocolate milk after training to help repair and rebuild muscles that I used during that workout. Following these basic nutrition goals that I have set for myself as well as working closely with our sport nutritionist at the National Centre will help me reach my ultimate goal.

We're proud to sponsor William as he strives towards his Olympic dream. Next up for William is the Canadian Senior Short Track Championships January 16th-18th. The competition is in Montreal and he's hoping for a top 6 finish so he can make the Canadian Team for the World Championships this year.
