DIY Egg Carton Santa Hat Garland
GeneralAdd a touch of homemade charm to your holiday décor with this adorable Santa Hat Garland! Made from upcycled egg cartons, it’s a fun, budget-friendly craft that’s perfect for holiday decorating. Plus, it’s a great way to get creative with the family and make your space feel extra festive.
Makes: 1 Santa Hat Garland with 12 mini Santa hats
What You’ll Need:
2 egg carton trays (to make 12 mini Santa hats)
Red paint
White paint
6 cotton swabs (cut in half for 12 pieces)
Small paintbrush
Scissors
A sharp tool (like a wooden skewer or thick needle) to poke holes
String or twine (for hanging)
How to Make It:
1. Cut the Hat Shapes:
Cut out 12 individual egg cups from the cartons. Trim around the edges to create clean, hat-like shapes.
2. Paint the Hats Red:
Paint each egg cup with red paint, covering the outside and edges. Let them dry completely before moving to the next step.
3. Add the White Trim:
Using white paint, add a border around the bottom (Santa’s “fur” trim). Add a small white dot on the very top (this will be the base for the pom-pom).
4. Make the Pom-Poms:
Poke a small hole at the top of each hat using a skewer or thick needle. Insert one cotton swab half into the hole, cotton tip facing up to look like a fluffy pom-pom.
5. Make the Garland Holes:
Poke a small hole on each side of the hat near the top for threading the string. A skewer or thick needle works best for this step.
6. Thread the Garland:
Pass a string or twine through all the hats, spacing them evenly. Tie knots at each end, and your festive garland is ready to hang!
